Retaining

Once Orhodontic treatment has been completed, the „new“ occlusion should be stabilized with so called retainers. Especially after the treatment of very tightly positioned teeth, these have a tendency to move back into their original position.

In order to prevent that, thin, transparent, yet very stable synthetic splints (clear overlays) are made, which should be worn especially at night for some time after removing the brackets. These splints are mostly invisible and some of our patients also wear them during the day without any problems.

Another possibility for stabilizing occlusion, is the use of glued retainers, which are very fine wires that are being glued on the tongue-side of the teeth and which therefore keep the form of the dental arch.
